Trigger Finger Discipline

FIRST, if you are going to be handling your firearm during this podcast, I need you to verify that the weapon is not loaded and there is no live ammunition in the room with you while you are manipulating your handgun.

Verify all of the ammunition is removed from the cylinder of your revolver. Remove the magazine and lock the slide to the rear if you are handling a semi-automatic pistol. Visually and physically verify there is not a round in the chamber. Then, ensure you remove the magazine and all live ammunition from the room.

Once you have verified your firearm is unloaded, leave the action open and place the weapon on the table in front of you.

I do not want you ever to handle a loaded firearm while listening to this podcast episode. Safety first, ALWAYS!

Trigger finger discipline is a critical element of firearm safety. As an instructor for over three decades, I can tell you that a person’s trigger finger discipline tells me a lot about them and their weapon familiarity and safety.

I will discuss the importance of developing trigger finger discipline during this show. Proper trigger finger discipline can minimize the risk of a negligent discharge and enhance your firearms safety.

Your trigger finger should only enter the trigger guard and rest on the trigger when you are on target and ready to fire.

There is no reason for you to experience a negligent discharge. Take the time to think about and train proper trigger finger discipline.
